Your child will need to learn a Mother Tongue Lang

Your child will need to learn a Mother Tongue Language (MTL) as a second language in school. It is a compulsory subject.

The Chinese language curriculum focuses on listening, speaking, reading, writing and interaction skills.

Research has shown that 50% of our ability to learn is developed by age 4 and another 30% by age 8. This is why 3 years olds are encouraged to learn a second language. Well, all researchers agree that the earlier a child starts learning, the better.

We teachers at HAO have seen too many students struggle in Primary school Chinese syllabus due to a lack of a solid foundation. Because children grow up so quickly, we strongly advise parents to take advantage of their children’s golden years in language learning while they are still young.

The younger you start, the easier it is to absorb and develop an interest in the language.

At HAO, our 2R (Read and Recognition) programme aims to support Primary students who are weak in the Chinese language.

Students with Paper 2 scores below 60% are strongly advised to enroll in this course in order to re-build the foundation years and be well prepared for their PSLE the next time.

our 2R course allows students to:
1. Master their Chinese vocabulary from P1 to their current learning syllabus.✅

2. Stimulate their interest in the Chinese language through story-telling and thematic games.✅

3. Strengthen their reading confidence by using flashcards, sentence and passage reading.✅

4. Improve their writing accuracy and spelling in order to help with written assessments at school.✅

This course will be customised to your child's learning pace; students of varying levels and standards will complete the course at different times.

We always advise parents that your child’s language skills in school are determined by his or her reading volume.

So, beginning with N1 (3 years), we develop the children’s interest in Chinese reading. This maximises their language confidence as they transition into Primary school.

We are all aware that Chinese grammar rules differ greatly from those of English. During their early years, our students must interact with the language flow by doing a lot of reading in Chinese.

This not only reflects their reading and recognition strengths, but it also improves their future writing skills.
